Football

Despite having said so much about sport yesterday I failed to mention Football. Germany lost 0:1 to Argentina and ZDF describes it as Eine 0:1-Demütigung Follow the link through and you'll find plenty more to read and there are video links as well including Deutschland-Argentinien in voller Länge

ZDF Sport offers more than football so explore further

Sport auf Deutsch

Here are four topics for discussion under the general heading of sport and exercise:
  • Traditional versus 'fun' sports
  • Reasons for taking part in sport/physical exercise
  • Factors influencing participation
  • Links between physical exercise and health

A useful starting place is the Deutsche Olympische SportBund (DOSB).
Regelmäßige sportliche Aktivität beeinflusst Gesundheit und Wohlbefinden positiv. Der DOSB bietet Fitness für einen gesunden Lebensstil. >>>

And you could visit their Fun und Spiele page for a series of light hearted tests and quizzes including - Und welcher Fitnesstyp sind Sie? - Wissen, wie's läuft. Das Fitness-Quiz - Der Fitness-Test.

For more German fitness vocabulary than you will ever need there's a Fitness-Lexicon von A-Z

There are three main areas on fitness. First there is http://www.richtigfit.de/. Older people like me can benefit from http://www.richtigfitab50.de/ . Both have long lists of Sportarten. For young people and sport visit http://www.dsj.de/.

You might also want to find out what anti-doping measures are being taken.

Viel Spass. Sport macht fit.

Curling

I've only just caught up with Stefan Niggemeier's post about Curling He's right. Nearly every time I see the Winter Olympics on TV it seems to feature curling. Of course, I've only seen this on BBC but the commentators do use a foreign language. Freezing the red doesn't make a lot of sense to me. They're doing it on ice - why isn't everything freezing?

But do have a look at what Stefan has to say. He's very amusing .... and a prolific blogger.

Blood doping

Only a few days before the Winter Olympics start in Vancouver and we hear allegations that someone on the German team has been gaining some performance boost illegally. If you want to follow this on the German news start with Deutsche Olympionikon unter Verdacht on N24. There's also a simple timetable on this page for the various events which are taking place in Whistler as well as Vancouver. However, if you want to follow all the stories it might be better to start with Olympia 2010 in Vancouver

Stern is carrying the doping story as well so if you want to compare stories take a look at Deutsche Wintersportler unter Doping-Verdacht
